Why memberships fail in most salons

The plan itself is rarely the problem. The trouble starts after the sale: a register entry nobody checks, a discount the new receptionist forgets, a client who insists they have two sessions left. Members feel cheated, staff feel awkward, and the owner stops selling plans.

Chair fixes the part after the sale, so selling plans becomes easy again.

Sold once, remembered every visit

Sell a membership or package during checkout, linked to the client’s phone number. On every later visit Chair shows their plan, applies the discount, uses a free add-on or redeems a session, and records it. Anyone at the front desk sees the same thing.

Plans you can trust years later

Once a plan has been sold, its terms are locked. Change your pricing tomorrow and every past bill and every client’s plan still shows exactly what was agreed. You can pause or retire a plan without losing its history.

See what plans earn you

Reports show membership and package sales, your top plans and the savings clients received. Clients and subscribers views show every active and expired plan, client by client.

Questions salon owners ask

What kinds of memberships can I create?

Set a name, duration, price and discount, for all services or only the ones you pick. You can also include free add-ons per month, per membership or per appointment, such as one free head massage a month.

What is the difference between a package and a membership?

A package is prepaid services: either a combo of different services for one price, or a set of sessions of one service, like six hair spas. A membership is a time-based plan that gives discounts and free add-ons while it is active.

How does Chair know a client is a member?

Memberships and packages are linked to the client’s phone number. When they book or check out, Chair finds their active plans and applies them automatically.

In what order are benefits applied?

Package sessions first, then free membership add-ons, then the member discount on the remaining eligible services, then normal prices. The same rule every time, for every staff member.

Can I change a membership after selling it?

Once a plan has been sold, its terms are locked so past bills and what clients bought never change. You can stop selling it and create a new version at any time.

Can clients buy a membership on WhatsApp?

Not yet. Your team sells memberships and packages at checkout in Chair. Chair Concierge can already explain your plans to clients on WhatsApp.

How do I price a salon membership?

Start from what a regular spends per visit and how often they come. The membership should pay for itself within the visits a regular makes during its validity, so they save money and you collect upfront. Use the calculator on this page to test your numbers.
